When it comes to booking group safety training for your team, a little preparation goes a long way. Whether you're arranging IOSH Managing Safely for a cohort of managers or booking a First Aid refresher for twenty staff, following a clear process will save you time, avoid common pitfalls, and ensure your delegates get the most from the experience.

Use this checklist before you confirm your booking to make sure everything is in order.

1. Confirm your delegate numbers early

Most training providers, including us, need a minimum number of delegates to run a course. Equally, many venues and providers cap class sizes to maintain quality. Confirm your headcount as early as possible, and aim to book a few extras to account for last-minute drop-outs.

2. Check job roles and prerequisites

Some courses have prerequisites or are specifically designed for certain roles. IOSH Managing Safely, for example, is aimed at line managers and supervisors, not front-line workers. Make sure the course you're booking is the right fit for the delegates you have in mind.

3. Choose between classroom, online, or on-site delivery

Classroom courses are ideal for teams that benefit from face-to-face interaction. Online courses offer flexibility. On-site delivery, where the trainer comes to your premises, can be cost-effective for larger groups and allows the training to be tailored to your specific workplace environment.

4. Agree on a date that works for operations

Check shift patterns, seasonal workloads, and any planned annual leave before confirming a date. Multi-day courses in particular require delegates to commit to consecutive or closely spaced sessions. Make sure your operational requirements allow for this.

5. Collect delegate information in advance

Most certification bodies require accurate delegate details (full name, date of birth, and sometimes employer information) to issue certificates. Collect this information before the training day so you're not scrambling at the last minute.
